How to stop hesitating?

I know a lot of people who hesitate and therefore don't do it. They start analyzing an thinking about what will happen and probably thinking about negative outcome or worst case scenario. And there is very good old adage - 'analysis - paralysis'.

So how to stop hesitating? The answer is simple - do it. As Susan Jeffers says in her book - Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway.Even if you fail its better to fail fast. When you take action you learn something and get feedback(remember there is no failure, only feedback) and build on it.
When you take action straight away you will have an advantage because majority will still be hesitating and doing nothing.

If you have been hesitating make decision right now and do it whatever it is - start your own business, career change, sign up for the course, ask the girl you admire to go out or even get a life coach.

If you don't do what you would like to do

Today I want to talk again how to get started doing something( exercise, meditation.......) you want to do but usually don't do or avoid.

Lets take exercise as an example. Most people think that they have to exercise early in the morning or go to the gym, but they hate getting up early and don't like or haven't got time to go to the gym. They have picture in mind associating exercise with getting up early in the morning, going to the gym... and as it doesn't look to attractive and pleasant people find reasons - excuses not to do it(i am tired today, i haven' got time today, sleep is part of good health.....).

So how to avoid this traps? First of all if you hate getting up in the morning, you don't have to do it. Set more favorable and convenient time for your exercise (evening, lunch break....) and more attractive form of exercise ( if you don't like going to the gym, choose something else you enjoy doing - dancing, yoga, walking, cycling.....). If you don't have time to go to the gym - buy a mat and CD and do yoga or any other type of exercise at home.

The same things can be applied to other activities - meditation, reading..... it's easy to do it , just make it more attractive and associate it with pleasure.

How to become more efficient

Last week I went Brighton for a life coaching training day. I've learnt a lot and I would like to share with you one thing which will improve your efficiency.I hope Neil and Natasha (coaches who were speakers at the training day) won't mind.

So every morning make a list of 7 most important jobs you have to do on that day. List by importance . Then every Monday make a list of 7 most important things you have to do that week. At the beginning of the month make a list of 7 most important jobs you have to do that month. And finally at the beginning of the year list 7 things you need to do during the following year.
To make the process easier you can compile a table with 7 rows and either do it on the computer or print out and then write jobs you have to do. But remember use paper wisely as we need to save trees and our planet.
At the end of the day, week.... you need to go through the list and check if you completed task or not. If you haven't done something from your list ask yourself why and reschedule the task.

I hope this helps and I would like to hear about your progress.

Power of public commitment

Currently I am reading great book 'The Psychology of Persuasion' by Robber B. Cialdini and I found very interesting story. A person was trying to quit smoking and kept relapsing but then he decided to make one change - her wrote on the back on his business card 'I promise you that I will never smoke another cigarette' and gave a copy of his card to his friends and colleagues. As he says quiting smoking 'cold turkey' was hardest thing he's ever done and he was tempted to smoke many times, however public commitment always stopped him from doing it and he's never had a fag again.

So if you have been trying stop doing or start doing and but unsuccessfully try this method it's really powerful. Let me know if it worked for you.

How to get started

Many people plan to start doing something but they never start. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

Here is the thing - a lot of people doesn't start doing because they sets very high standards to themselves which are very unlikely to be achieved immediately, i.e doesn't do any exercise and want to start exercising 5 times a week for one hour or want to make a million dollar from his own business but he even hasn't got his own business and never had. Do you think those people are likely to succeed. The answer is no with very few exceptions.

So how to get started. The answer is very simple - lower your standards and start from very small. For instance, if you don't exercise, start from 10 minutes twice a week. If you want to start meditating, start from 5 minutes 3 times a week.

And guess what, when you start exercising, meditating or whatever you going to do, you probably will do more, because time goes fast, especially when you enjoy the process.

When you feel comfortable with your task, start gradually increasing time, intensity.......

So start from small and take action right now.

I hope it will help and I would be glad to hear your success stories.
